US Presidential Race: Decision time in Iowa

Iowa will on Monday begin the process to decide who gets to be in the final race for the White House in the United States of America.

Democrat’s Hilary Clinton is slightly ahead of Bernie Sanders in the latest polls. Some analysts suggest she will still be in the lead due to the huge support base she has and they cannot be easily swayed.

“Hillary Clinton remains the prohibitive favorite to win the Democratic nomination. She just has enormous institutional support behind her and she has a big, and probably difficult for Sanders, a lead among women and among minorities. If he is going to have any chance at all, he has to expand his coalition. Right now he is just appealing to highly educated young liberals,” Jim Tankersley, The Washington Post.

On the Republican side, Real Estate Mogul Donald Trump, in spite of his uncoventional campaign message on Muslims, women and immigration, is leading the polls followed by Texas’ Ted Cruz.

“There is a deeper reason why Trump is doing so well on the Republican side, and that is he articulated a lot of views that were actually shared by other Republican candidates, but that were too scripted and too controlled to express. And so Trump is actually tapping into some deep yearning within the Republican party base,” said Allan Lichtman, a presidential Historian.

49 other states will vote after Iowa in the coming weeks before the parties make their final choice in summer for the November polls.
